Neuropharmacological characterization of the new psychoactive substance methoxetamine


Hondebrink et al investigated the effects of methoxetamine (MXE) on several neurotransmitter receptors, neuronal activity and monoamine transporters using respectively single cell intracellular calcium imaging, micro-electrode array (MEA) recordings and a fluorescence-based plate reader assay. The combined in vitro data demonstrate multiple effects of methoxetamine, including inhibition of monoamine transporters and neuronal network activity, thereby providing a first mechanistic insight to aid the risk assessment of this NPS (Neuropharmacology).
