Neurodegenerative and neurological disorders by small inhaled particles

This review by Heusinkveld et al evaluates the relationship between exposure to inhaled ambient particles and impaired neurodevelopment and neurodegeneration, including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease. The review indicates the involvement of oxidative stress, metal and protein homeostasis, neuroinflamation and blood-brain-barrier impairment as potential underlying mechanisms (Neurotoxicology).
